When you've accidentally killed your girlfriend, fled society and lived amongst wolves as you mature into adulthood rarely taking a bath and not exactly being known for your happy go lucky disposition, it's unlikely you'll have many friends especially when you have a deep mistrust of those who may become close to you. And indeed Wolverine has few friends but, as a mutant, many enemies including organisations such as the United Nations who established the Mutant Response Division to protect humanity from their perceived threat.
